The Rub (Down to the Wire)

2019.

12 identical boxes, connected in sequence, hang evenly-spaced around a room. Each has a motion sensor that, when activated, signals a motor to pull the chain of its light fixture. An awl is attached to the end of each chain, which hangs to the floor. As the chains moves, the awls poke into and drag across slices of pink plasticine on coral canvas.
